Our third graders recently embarked on their Measurement Main Lesson, which included skill-building and hands-on experiences with distance, height, width and weight.

They related the measurement systems to various parts of the body, such as a hands, feet, leg length, body height and weight, etc. After this fun way of learning measurements, the students were interested in measuring everything and quickly realised that measurements are embedded in so many parts of our daily lives!

Nuestros alumnos de tercer curso se embarcaron recientemente en el Main Lesson de medidas, que incluía experiencias prácticas y de desarrollo de habilidades con la distancia, la altura, la anchura y el peso.

Relacionaron los sistemas de medida con diversas partes del cuerpo, como las manos, los pies, la longitud de las piernas, la altura y el peso del cuerpo, etc. Tras esta divertida forma de aprender a medir, los alumnos se interesaron por medirlo todo y enseguida se dieron cuenta de que las medidas están presentes en muchas partes de nuestra vida cotidiana.

Woodworking - Extracurricular workshop
We are delighted to bring you some pictures of the process and finished product of the first project that the students in our extra-curricular woodworking workshop have been undertaking.

Students have been developing the skills to create beautiful and functional woodworking projects with practice, persistence, and a willingness to learn. They are learning to use measuring, cutting, drilling, and sanding tools and how to work safely with them.

For their first project, they worked on designing and imprinting their own designs on a wooden board and then started carving it with a fret saw and the help of a manual drill. When the cuttings were finished, they sanded and painted their pieces.

Trabajo en madera - Taller extraescolar
Estamos encantados de traeros algunas fotos del proceso y el producto final del primer proyecto de carpintería que han realizado los alumnos de nuestro taller extraescolar de carpintería.

Los alumnos han estado desarrollando las habilidades necesarias para crear proyectos de carpintería bonitos y funcionales poniendo en práctica su persistencia y ganas de aprender. Están aprendiendo a utilizar herramientas de medición, corte, taladrado y lijado y a trabajar con ellas de forma segura.

Para su primer proyecto, diseñaron e imprimieron sus propios dibujos en una tabla de madera y luego empezaron a tallarlos con una sierra de calar y la ayuda de un taladro manual. Una vez terminados los recortes, lijaron y pintaron sus piezas.

Thank you to everyone who came to visit us on Satu

Thank you to everyone who came to visit us on Saturday at the Advent Fayre and Community Market. It was fantastic to see so many of you coming to enjoy the hospitality provided by our students and buying their wares to help towards their school trips. We were grateful to the local artisans who provided a festive shopping experience. And to you all, our wonderful community, who took part in the advent workshops, bought the raffle tickets and handmade crafts, and enjoyed the cafe while supporting this important fundraising activity which will be benefitting two of the music schools affected by the catastrophic DANA in Valencia. The funds will be shared between the Conservatorio de Catarroja and Conservatorio Profesional de Musica Uriel.

Gracias a todos los que vinisteis a visitarnos el sábado en la Feria de Adviento y el Mercado Comunitario. Fue fantástico ver a tantos de vosotros venir a disfrutar de la hospitalidad proporcionada por nuestros estudiantes mientras los ayudabais a recaudar fondos para sus viajes escolares comprando sus productos. Estamos muy agradecidos a los artesanos locales que nos ofrecieron una bonita experiencia de compra navideña. Y a todos vosotros, nuestra maravillosa comunidad, que participasteis en los talleres de adviento, comprasteis los boletos de la rifa y las artesanías hechas a mano, y disfrutasteis de la cafetería mientras apoyabais esta importante actividad de recaudación de fondos que beneficiará a dos de las escuelas de música afectadas por la catastrófica DANA en Valencia. Los fondos se repartirán entre el Conservatorio de Catarroja y el Conservatorio Profesional de Música Utiel.

If you're coming to the Advent Fayre tomorrow, the doors are open from 11.00 h.

We’ve a wide range of activities for everyone to get involved, enter the festive spirit and contribute to our fundraising efforts for victims of the DANA. There will be a range of workshops, festive artesanal shopping, fundraising stalls and of course the World Cafe and a delicious paella.

The primary school teachers have created a puppet show, which will start at 12:00 noon and 14:00 - they would love to see you there with your children.

The pedagogical exhibition and the creative workshops are 12:00 - 15:00

The World Cafe is open all day from 11:00 - 16:00
Paella will be served in two sittings at 12:30 and at 13:30
Our classes will also be selling a range of food and drink in the community market.

The AIS Student’s concert is at 15:00 and the raffle at 15:45 followed by Carol Singing in The Hall.

We hope to see you there!

Si vienes mañana a la Feria de Adviento, las puertas estarán abiertas a partir de las 11.00 horas.

Tenemos una amplia gama de actividades para que todos participen, entren en el espíritu navideño y contribuyan a nuestros esfuerzos de recaudación de fondos para las víctimas de la DANA. Habrá una serie de talleres, compras artesanales navideñas, puestos de recaudación de fondos y, por supuesto, el World Café y una deliciosa paella.

Los profesores de primaria han creado un teatrillo de mesa, que comenzará a las 12:00 y a las 14:00 - nos encantaría verte allí con tus niños.

La exposición pedagógica y los talleres creativos son de 12:00 a 15:00

El World Cafe - estará abierto todo el día de 11:00 a 16:00
La paella se servirá en dos turnos, a las 12:30 y a las 13:30.
Nuestras clases también ofrecerán comida variada en el mercado comunitario.

El concierto de los estudiantes del AIS tendrá lugar a las 15:00 horas y la rifa tendrá lugar a las 15:45, y a continuación se cantaremos villancicos en El Hall para terminar.

Advent is a time for inner preparation as we look

Advent is a time for inner preparation as we look forward to kindling the inner light that glows within us all. At AIS, the Advent Spiral helps us prepare for the peaceful celebration of the winter festivals (Christmas and Hanukkah, among others) reflecting the human experience at this time of the year, going from darkness to light after the winter solstice.

Evergreen boughs (a symbol of everlasting life) are placed in a spiral form on the floor with a large candle in its centre. The room is darkened, and the mood is peaceful. The spiral begins: one at a time, each child walks into the spiral with an apple in which an unlit candle sits. They walk and make their way to the spiral’s centre. There, they find the large lighted candle and from it, light their own. They place their lantern carefully, with help if needed, somewhere along the spiral’s path, and then they walk back to their seat.

It's a special moment to watch a young child wind their way through the spiral’s path and find the universal light they then take back to give to the world.

El Adviento es un tiempo de preparación interior en el que esperamos encender la luz interior que brilla en todos nosotros. En el AIS, la Espiral de Adviento nos ayuda a prepararnos para la celebración pacífica de las fiestas de invierno (Navidad y Janucá, entre otras) y refleja la experiencia humana en esta época del año, pasando de la oscuridad a la luz tras el solsticio de invierno.

Se colocan ramas de hoja perenne (símbolo de la vida eterna) en forma de espiral en el suelo con una gran vela en el centro. La habitación está a oscuras y el ambiente es tranquilo. Comienza la espiral: de uno en uno, cada niño entra en la espiral con una manzana en la que hay una vela apagada. Caminan hasta el centro de la espiral. Allí, encuentran la vela grande encendida y, a partir de ella, encienden la suya. Colocan su farol con cuidado, con ayuda si es necesario, en algún lugar del recorrido de la espiral, y luego vuelven a su asiento.

Es un momento especial ver a un niño pequeño recorrer el camino de la espiral y encontrar la luz universal que luego se lleva para darla al mundo.

In the lab, Class 7 students have discovered the wonders of chromatography during their Science lessons. Using felt tips, paper and water they observed this process of colour separation when the solvent comes into contact with the colour. Chromatography gets its name from a technique first used in the late 19th century to separate pigments in a complex mixture.

Chromatography was initially used by artists, colour theorists and artisans hoping to perfect industrial dyes for textiles. With time, it also spawned a unique branch of chemistry, and with it, the techniques used today to understand and purify mixtures.

En el laboratorio, los alumnos de la clase 7 han descubierto las maravillas de la cromatografía durante sus clases de Ciencias. Utilizando rotuladores, papel y agua, han observado este proceso de separación de colores cuando el disolvente entra en contacto con el color. La cromatografía debe su nombre a una técnica utilizada por primera vez a finales del siglo XIX para separar pigmentos en una mezcla compleja.

La cromatografía fue utilizada inicialmente por artistas, teóricos del color y artesanos que esperaban perfeccionar los tintes industriales para textiles. Con el tiempo, también dio lugar a una rama única de la química y, con ella, a las técnicas que se utilizan hoy en día para comprender y purificar mezclas.
