Our offer at AIS is a rich balance of academics, art, music, drama, handwork and movement – a curriculum that is lively and current, designed to help form an understanding of the world and our relation to it. The lessons and activities encourage the development of the senses and imagination along with important skills such as literacy, numeracy, arts and crafts.

The curriculum is treated as a meaningful whole as opposed to a collection of fragmented subjects.
PRIMARY Introduction to AIS Primary Characteristics of the Waldorf curriculum support healthy life processes:
Routines repeated daily, weekly and yearly provide for periods of intense focus and periods of rest, as rhythm and repetition support the development of will power and strengthen imagination.

Strong personal relationships are fostered, as teachers connect deeply with their students, remaining with the same students for many years.

For the younger students of the lower primary years, the lesson subjects are shaped to incorporate an abundance of physical and practical activities, which support this stage of development. As they get older, the curriculum content changes to provide a platform for self-expression and exploration.

We give great importance to a nurturing environment and we are alert to individual needs, neither rushing (and causing stress) nor holding back children. “Education is an art of awakening what is already present”. PRIMARIA Introducción a AIS Primaria Las características del currículo Waldorf favorecen procesos vitales saludables:
Las rutinas repetidas diaria, semanal y anualmente proporcionan periodos de intensa concentración y periodos de descanso, ya que el ritmo y la repetición favorecen el desarrollo de la fuerza de voluntad y refuerzan la imaginación.

Se fomentan fuertes relaciones personales, ya que los profesores conectan profundamente con sus alumnos, permaneciendo con los mismos durante muchos años.

Para los alumnos más jóvenes de los primeros años de primaria, los temas de las clases se configuran de modo que incorporen abundantes actividades físicas y prácticas, que favorecen esta etapa del desarrollo. Presentations A hallmark of the Steiner-Waldorf approach is celebrating our young students’ development through presentations which allow them to showcase their knowledge, skills, and talents while fostering confidence and collaboration. Festivals Throughout the year, we celebrate seasonal festivals that connect students to the rhythms of nature and cultural traditions. They often involve storytelling, artistic performances, music, and shared meals, creating a sense of joy and community. Arts Crafts Imagination and experimentation are nurtured through artistic activity and practical work. Handwork lessons in primary, help develop fine motor skills and develop a healthy tactile sense while working with a range of natural materials.. The activity of “crafting” or craft-making is an intrinsic part of our student’s development at AIS. From early years of primary through to secondary. It is in the very nature of crafts that their manual creativity brings ideas to expression. Games / PE An important aspect of our timetable in primary through to Class 6 is the Main Lesson. One of the core subjects is studied in depth for three weeks every morning. A wide range of Main Lesson subjects are studied over the course of the school year within the framework of a clearly defined curriculum e.g. History, Maths, English, Geography, Natural Science.

There are no text books, rather the students create their own Main Lesson book for each subject based on the material presented by the class teacher.

During the rest of the school day, the students follow a timetable of lessons in other subjects which are taught by specialist teachers.

These lessons are on a fixed timetable throughout the year and include: Maths, English, Science, Spanish, Valenciano, German, Music, Art, Crafts, ICT, Gardening and PSHE (Personal and Social Health Education).

The Main Lesson books are carefully crafted and illustrated and are a record of the student’s progress over the year. The Main Lesson work is assessed by an evaluation that includes a peer assessment, a self-assessment and a teacher’s assessment. The Teacher’s assessment covers 4 areas depending on the subject including Content, Effort and Presentation. All Main Lesson blocks are taught by the Class teacher.

Residential trips and excursions are organised in conjunction with the Main Lesson areas of study.
PE and games in primary contributes to their personal and social development, reinforcing healthy and social habits and supporting overall wellbeing. This active and fun part of the curriculum (often outdoors) supports the foundation of teamwork and communication skills. MAIN LESSON Gardening The school maintains a garden where students grow their own vegetables and herbs. This hands-on experience teaches them about the growth cycle of food and the importance of agriculture. Presentaciones Un rasgo distintivo del enfoque Steiner-Waldorf es celebrar el desarrollo de nuestros jóvenes alumnos mediante presentaciones que les permitan mostrar sus conocimientos, habilidades y talentos, fomentando al mismo tiempo la confianza y la colaboración. Festivales A lo largo del año, celebramos festivales estacionales que conectan a los alumnos con los ritmos de la naturaleza y las tradiciones culturales. Suelen incluir cuentacuentos, representaciones artísticas, música y comidas compartidas, creando un sentimiento de alegría y comunidad. Arte Manualidades La imaginación y la experimentación se alimentan a través de la actividad artística y el trabajo práctico. Las clases de manualidades en primaria ayudan a desarrollar la motricidad fina y el sentido del tacto mientras se trabaja con diversos materiales naturales. La actividad de «hacer manualidades» es una parte intrínseca del desarrollo de nuestros alumnos en el AIS. Desde los primeros años de primaria hasta secundaria. Está en la propia naturaleza de las manualidades que su creatividad manual lleve las ideas a la expresión. Juegos / Educación Física Un aspecto importante de nuestro horario en primaria hasta la clase 6 es la Clase Principal. Cada mañana se estudia en profundidad una de las asignaturas principales durante tres semanas. A lo largo del curso escolar se estudia una amplia gama de asignaturas de la Lección Principal en el marco de un currículo claramente definido, por ejemplo, Historia, Matemáticas, Inglés, Geografía y Ciencias Naturales.

No hay libros de texto, sino que los alumnos crean su propio libro de la Lección Principal para cada asignatura basándose en el material presentado por el profesor de la clase.

Durante el resto de la jornada escolar, los alumnos siguen un horario de clases de otras asignaturas impartidas por profesores especializados.

Estas clases tienen un horario fijo durante todo el año e incluyen: Matemáticas, Inglés, Ciencias, Español, Valenciano, Alemán, Música, Arte, Manualidades, TIC, Jardinería y PSHE (Personal and Social Health Education).

Los libros de las clases principales están cuidadosamente elaborados e ilustrados y constituyen un registro del progreso de los alumnos a lo largo del año. El trabajo de las clases principales se evalúa mediante un cuestionario que incluye la evaluación de los compañeros, la autoevaluación y la evaluación del profesor. La evaluación del profesor cubre 4 áreas dependiendo de la asignatura incluyendo Contenido, Esfuerzo y Presentación. Todos los bloques de clases principales son impartidos por el profesor de la clase.

Los viajes de estudios y las excursiones se organizan conjuntamente con las áreas de estudio de las clases principales.
La educación física y los juegos en primaria contribuyen a su desarrollo personal y social, reforzando hábitos saludables y sociales y apoyando el bienestar general. Esta parte activa y divertida del currículo (a menudo al aire libre) favorece el trabajo en equipo y la comunicación. CLASE PRINCIPAL Jardinería El colegio tiene un huerto donde los alumnos cultivan sus propias verduras y hierbas. Class One AIS Primary Education Per Class Classes 2-5 The curriculum gradually expands to include more in-depth studies in language arts, mathematics, science, history, geography, and the arts. We introduce foreign languages, music, handwork, and practical skills. The emphasis remains on fostering a love of learning, critical thinking, creativity, and social responsibility.

English Language Proficiency
For students in Key Stage 2 with lower levels of English proficiency, we offer extracurricular classes to help them improve their language skills and fully participate in the curriculum. Transition to Secondary
Class 6 Although Class 6 is actually classed as first year of secondary, the curriculum continues to expand. Subjects begin the transition towards the more rigorous academic content of Secondary education and the students will join the assemblies with classes 7 to 10 on Thursdays. At the same time, they still enjoy the nurturing environment of being with their class teacher for the majority of the subjects, following the main lesson structure and they continue to participate in primary festivals. Everything in the syllabus is selected and taught in a way that fosters the development of the children at each stage. In Grade 1 three subjects are taught throughout the year: language (learning to listen, speak, write and read); mathematics (learning the numbers and the four operations); and environment studies (discovering the world around them, the forerunner of science).

There is a rhythm to the day, week and year and festivals are important. Teaching is pictorial and imaginative, the aim being to stimulate the intellect through activity, rhythm and imagination. Time is spent laying down good habits of classroom life and work, cultivating reverence for nature, respect for others and learning to connect with and care for the children’s environment. Writing is introduced, using pictures, rhymes and stories, and practised with form drawing and movement. Reading begins with the children’s own written work and familiar songs and poems. Listening and speaking skills are also practised, with nature stories and fairy tales from around the world. Number work is begun, again with pictures, rhymes and stories. The four processes are introduced and a start is made on learning times tables. The class begins learning the pentatonic flute, starts working with watercolours, and in handwork they begin by making their own knitting needles.

Clase Uno AIS Educación Primaria Por Clase Clases 2-5 El currículo se amplía gradualmente para incluir estudios más profundos de lengua y literatura, matemáticas, ciencias, historia, geografía y arte. Introducimos lenguas extranjeras, música, trabajos manuales y habilidades prácticas. Se sigue haciendo hincapié en fomentar el amor por el aprendizaje, el pensamiento crítico, la creatividad y la responsabilidad social.

Conocimientos de inglés
Para los alumnos de Key Stage 2 con niveles más bajos de inglés, ofrecemos clases extraescolares para ayudarles a mejorar sus conocimientos lingüísticos y participar plenamente en el currículo. Transición a Secundaria
Clase 6 Aunque la clase 6 se clasifica en realidad como primer curso de secundaria, el currículo sigue ampliándose. Las asignaturas inician la transición hacia los contenidos académicos más rigurosos de la enseñanza secundaria y los alumnos se incorporan a las asambleas con las clases 7 a 10 los jueves. Al mismo tiempo, siguen disfrutando del ambiente enriquecedor de estar con su profesor de clase en la mayoría de las asignaturas, siguiendo la estructura de las clases principales, y continúan participando en los festivales de primaria. Todo el programa de estudios se selecciona e imparte de forma que favorezca el desarrollo de los niños en cada etapa. En el primer curso se imparten tres asignaturas a lo largo del año: lengua (aprender a escuchar, hablar, escribir y leer); matemáticas (aprender los números y las cuatro operaciones); y medio ambiente (descubrir el mundo que les rodea, precursor de la ciencia).

El día, la semana y el año tienen un ritmo y las fiestas son importantes. La enseñanza es pictórica e imaginativa, con el objetivo de estimular el intelecto a través de la actividad, el ritmo y la imaginación. Se dedica tiempo a establecer buenos hábitos de vida y trabajo en el aula, a cultivar la reverencia por la naturaleza, el respeto por los demás y a aprender a conectar con el entorno de los niños y a cuidarlo. Se introduce la escritura, utilizando imágenes, rimas y cuentos, y se practica con el dibujo de formas y el movimiento. La lectura comienza con los propios trabajos escritos de los niños y con canciones y poemas conocidos. También se practica la comprensión auditiva y la expresión oral, con historias sobre la naturaleza y cuentos de hadas de todo el mundo. Se empieza a trabajar con los números, de nuevo con dibujos, rimas y cuentos. Se introducen los cuatro procesos y se inicia el aprendizaje de las tablas de multiplicar. La clase empieza a aprender a tocar la flauta pentatónica, a trabajar con acuarelas y, en manualidades, a fabricar sus propias agujas de tricotar.

A School day in AIS primary Class 1 Class 4 Classes one and two begin school at 09:00 and classes three through to six begin school at 08:30.
Each school day begins with the students having Circle Time with their Class Teacher. Circle Time is an activity that aims to ensure that the students start their day feeling grounded, engaged and ready to learn. It involves games, poetry recitation, music, rhythmic exercises, and discussions on important and interesting themes.

Circle Time is then followed by the Main Lesson with their Class Teacher and lasts 1.5 hours. Each Main Lesson topic is studied daily over approximately three weeks, and some subjects (but not specific topics), such as English, occur more than once.
There is break time for 20 minutes at 10:25, followed by subject lessons (e.g. crafts, gardening, Spanish). Classes 1 and 2 have a longer Main Lesson period and later morning break. Their first snack is an integral part of the Main Lesson.

Teachers accompany primary students to the cafeteria at lunchtime where they will eat together. Lunch is from 12:25 to 13:10. Subject lessons continue after lunch with their class teacher until 15:30. At the end of the day, Class 1 children may be picked up earlier at 14:45 if preferred.
There are a range of after-school extracurricular activities which run from 15:45 to 16:45; a small monthly fee is payable for each activity. (link here to extra-curricular activities).
Una jornada escolar en AIS Primaria Clase 1 Clase 4 Las clases de primero y segundo comienzan a las 09:00 y las de tercero a sexto a las 08:30.
Cada jornada escolar comienza con una sesión de círculo con el profesor de la clase. Se trata de una actividad cuyo objetivo es que los alumnos empiecen el día motivados y dispuestos a aprender. Incluye juegos, recitación de poesía, música, ejercicios rítmicos y debates sobre temas importantes e interesantes.

A continuación, se imparte la clase principal con el profesor, que dura una hora y media. Cada tema de la lección principal se estudia diariamente durante aproximadamente tres semanas, y algunas materias (pero no temas específicos), como el inglés, se repiten más de una vez.
Hay un recreo de 20 minutos a las 10:25, seguido de clases de asignaturas (por ejemplo, manualidades, jardinería, español). Las clases 1 y 2 tienen un periodo de clase principal más largo y un descanso matinal más tardío. La primera merienda forma parte de la lección principal.

Los profesores acompañan a los alumnos de primaria a la cafetería a la hora del almuerzo, donde comen juntos. El almuerzo es de 12:25 a 13:10. Las clases de las asignaturas continúan después del almuerzo con el profesor de la clase hasta las 15.30 horas. Al final del día, los niños de la clase 1 pueden ser recogidos antes, a las 14:45, si lo prefieren.
