A Message from the Headteacher

The good results achieved are a testimony to all the hard work and effort that they have made, and to the parents for their support and encouragement. It is also a testimony to the teachers for not only teaching their subjects but also encouraging and enabling the students to develop the very important life skills of independent learning, self-reliance and organisation. Their commitment and the time and thought they gave to each individual student is reflected not only in the grades the students achieved but the confidence they show and with which they will be able to tackle the next stage of their life’s journey»
Altea International School is authorised by the British Council through NABSS (The National Association of British Schools in Spain) and follows the National Curriculum of England and Wales. AIS is also authorised by the Ministry of Education of the ‘Generalitat Valenciana’ through the ‘Dirección General de Centros y Personal Docentes’, and is currently following IGCSEs (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) at Key stage 4 classes. In Key Stages 4 the timetables differ according to the student’s individual option choices. For the students studying for the official iGCSE exams AIS is currently offering the following subjects:
- English language and 2nd language
- Science – Biology, Chemistry, Physics
- Computer Science
KS4 students continue having Main Lessons in the main curriculum subjects: maths, English, science, history, geography and drama regardless of whether or not they will take a GCSE exam in this subject.
AIS assessment policy serves two essential purposes: to support learning and to establish standards. The former identifies areas that need to be focussed on, sets appropriate tasks and characterises the student’s approach, attitude and ability within the context of their development. The second form of assessment provides data that can be quantified, relates to specific attainments and states what a student can or cannot do according to an objectively set standard. This is the form used by external exam moderation boards for GCSE and A-levels exams.
